Jon 15:20

Remember the word that I said to you: A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. 

You can't expect to not suffer as a follower of Jesus because he suffered but you can find comfort in knowing that he too suffered and now sits on the right hand of God with all power in his hand.
